Shadow Box Expanded Roles
Shadowbox Technical Coordinator
The Shadowbox Technical Coordinator is responsible for keeping the technical elements of the Shadowbox operational, consistent, and show-ready.
This person oversees lighting, audio, fog, show controllers, triggers, powered effects, and related equipment. They conduct nightly system checks, troubleshoot failures during operation, and help make sure technical problems are handled safely.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist with installation, testing, programming, organization, and documentation of technical equipment.
- Participate in technical rehearsals and full attraction walkthroughs.
- Help establish startup, shutdown, troubleshooting, and emergency procedures.
- Test audio, lighting, fog, triggers, controllers, speakers, powered effects, and other show systems each operating night.
- Remain available throughout the night to respond to technical problems.
- Determine whether a failed effect can be safely reset, bypassed, repaired during operation, or held until closing.
- Complete end-of-night shutdown and maintain a nightly technical issue log.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with theatrical lighting, audio, fog systems, DMX, show controllers, low-voltage wiring, triggers, relays, sensors, or powered props.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Comfort using basic hand tools and testing equipment.
- Good judgment, reliability, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
Shadowbox Experience Coordinator
The Shadowbox Experience Coordinator is the primary nightly leader of the Shadowbox.
This person is responsible for the attraction’s overall operation, including actor readiness, scene coverage, performance consistency, pacing, communication, safety, guest experience, and coordination with the technical team.
Primary Responsibilities
- Learn the full Shadowbox experience, including story, tone, scares, transitions, guest path, backstage routes, and emergency exits.
- Participate in casting, actor placement, rehearsals, and scene development as requested.
- Conduct or lead the nightly actor meeting.
- Assign actors to scenes and confirm every required position is covered before opening.
- Maintain awareness of actor coverage and attraction conditions throughout the night.
- Give clear, useful performance feedback and address safety or conduct concerns.
- Coordinate actor breaks while maintaining appropriate scene coverage.
- Respond to guest issues, actor injuries, behavioral concerns, emergencies, and operational disruptions.
- Lead a brief end-of-night debrief and document issues that need follow-up.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Shadowbox or haunted-attraction experience.
- Strong leadership, communication, and situational awareness.
- Confidence making timely decisions.
- An understanding of scare timing, guest psychology, pacing, and actor reset.
- Reliability, emotional maturity, and calmness during emergencies or interruptions.
Shadowbox Experience Assistant Coordinator
The Shadowbox Experience Assistant Coordinator supports the nightly operation of the Shadowbox by monitoring cameras, helping coordinate actor care and breaks, and serving as an additional communication point between actors and the Experience Coordinator.
This is an active support and developing leadership position, not a passive camera-watching assignment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Learn the Shadowbox layout, scene names, camera locations, actor positions, backstage routes, and emergency exits.
- Assist with actor check-in and confirm attendance information with the Experience Coordinator.
- Monitor attraction cameras throughout operation.
- Watch for empty scenes, missed resets, spacing problems, guests leaving the path, unauthorized backstage activity, and safety concerns.
- Clearly communicate what is happening, where it is happening, and whether immediate action is required.
- Help track actor breaks and make sure actors return to their positions on time.
- Check on actors who appear distressed, injured, overheated, overwhelmed, or unusually fatigued.
- Document significant incidents, staffing changes, and recurring concerns.
- Assist with end-of-night actor checkout, supply collection, and debriefing.

- Strong attention to detail.
- Clear and concise radio communication.
- Empathy without losing sight of operational expectations.
- Discretion, confidentiality, reliability, and good follow-through.
- Comfort speaking up when something appears unsafe or incorrect.
- An interest in learning more about attraction operations and leadership.
